PONCEAU SX is an azo compound. Azo, diazo, and azide compounds can explode. This applies in particular to organic azides sensitized by the addition of metal salts or strong acids. Mixing such materials with acids, aldehydes, amides, carbamates, cyanides, inorganic fluorides, halogenated organics, isocyanates, ketones, metals, nitrides, peroxides, phenols, epoxides, acyl halides, and strong oxidizing or reducing agents can produce toxic gases. Mixing such materials with alkali metals can produce flammable gases. Mixing with strong oxidizing agents, metal salts, peroxides, and sulfides can produce explosive combinations.
