Basic violet 1, also known as methyl violet, gentian violet, etc., has a CAS number of 8004-87-3.
It is a chemical term, and its main components are a mixture of tetramethyl pararosaniline chloride, pentamethyl pararosaniline chloride and hexamethyl pararosaniline chloride. It is a dark green powder, soluble in water and alcohol, and a purple solution. It is soluble in glycerol and chloroform, but insoluble in ether.
Basic violet 1 can be used as a biological stain, acid-base indicator, and used to test mercury, silver and tin. In the medical field, its solution is usually called gentian violet (containing 1% gentian violet), which is a disinfectant and preservative with good bactericidal effect, non-irritating to tissues, and can condense with mucous membranes and skin surfaces to form a protective film and have an astringent effect.
