ACID RED 97 (C.I. 22890) CAS#10169-02-5

Acid Red 97 (C.I. 22890)
Molecular formula: C32H20N4Na2O8S2.
Molecular weight: 698.63274.
Physical and chemical properties: orange-red when soluble in water, orange when soluble in ethanol, soluble in ether and ethylene glycol ether. Adding concentrated hydrochloric acid to its aqueous solution produces a reddish-brown precipitate; adding concentrated sodium hydroxide solution produces a reddish-orange-brown color. The dye is red-purple in concentrated sulfuric acid and dark pink after dilution; it is dark blue-red in concentrated nitric acid and then turns orange.
Uses: Mainly used for dyeing leather, paper, etc.; can also be used for dyeing wool and nylon to obtain a bright yellow-red color.
Production method: Benzidine-2,2′-disulfonic acid and 2-naphthol are used as raw materials. The former is double-nitrogenated and coupled with the latter to obtain the product. The finished product is obtained after salting out, filtering and drying.

ACID RED 97 (C.I. 22890) Usage And Synthesis
Uses Acid Red 97 is an organic azo dye used as a leather dye, and in the preparation of fluorescent inorganic-organic hybrid nanoparticles for staining and imaging.
General Description Red to dark red powder. Copper and iron dull color; iron to a greater extent.
Air & Water Reactions Azo dyes in powder form can be explosive when suspended in air at specific concentrations. Moderately soluble in water to give acidic solution.
Reactivity Profile Aqueous solutions react as acids to neutralize bases in weakly exothermic reactions. Toxic gases are formed by mixing with acids, aldehydes, amides, carbamates, cyanides, inorganic fluorides, halogenated organics, isocyanates, ketones, metals, nitrides, peroxides, phenols, epoxides, acyl halides, and strong oxidizing or reducing agents. Flammable gases are formed by mixing materials in this group with alkali metals. Explosive combination can occur with strong oxidizing agents, metal salts, peroxides, and sulfides.
Health Hazard ACUTE/CHRONIC HAZARDS: When heated to decomposition ACID RED 97 (C.I. 22890) emits toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides.
Fire Hazard Flash point data for ACID RED 97 (C.I. 22890) are not available; however, ACID RED 97 (C.I. 22890) is probably combustible.
