Cadmium selenide red (CAS 58339-34-7), also known as pigment red 108, is a powder ranging from yellowish red to purple.
Its main components are cadmium selenide sulfide (CdS・CdSe) or a mixture of cadmium selenide sulfide and barium sulfate (CdS・CdSe・BaSO4), with the following characteristics: Bright color: The color is full and bright, and its color depends on the cadmium selenide content. The higher the cadmium selenide content, the stronger the red color. There are different color varieties such as orange-red, pure red, dark red and light red.
Good stability: It has good resistance to high temperature, alkali, light and atmospheric influence.
Strong tinting power and hiding power: It has excellent hiding power and good dispersibility in organic media. Filled cadmium red not only reduces costs, but also improves some properties, such as reduced specific gravity and oil absorption. Cadmium selenide red is insoluble in water, organic solvents, oils and alkaline solvents, slightly soluble in weak acids, and will release toxic gases such as hydrogen selenide (H2Se) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) when dissolved in strong acids.
